Sweet & Spicy BBQ Sauce

Another easy BBQ sauce, this time with more ingredients, but still pretty easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 32oz Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbs mustard powder
  • 2 Tbs paprika
  • 2 Tbs onion powder
  • 1 Tbs garlic powder
  • 1 Tbs chili powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • Mix the ingredients in a saucepan over low heat, stirring often for at least one hour. It should be reduced enough to fit into the ketchup bottle once it has thoroughly cooled.

Regarding Ketchup: Using ketchup imparts the preservatives that will allow this sauce to last several months in the refrigerator. Both Heinz and Hunts now make varieties that use sugar rather than HFCS. If you’re totally against using ketchup as the base, you can use tomato sauce/paste and additional vinegar.

    Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Just like the ones at Red Lobster, these drop-style biscuits go great with just about any kind of meal. Do NOT use margarine instead of butter.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix
    • ¾ cup cold whole milk
    • 4 TBS cold butter
    • ¼ tsp garlic powder
    • 1 cup sharp or medium cheddar cheese, grated

    topping:

    • 2 TBS butter, melted
    • ¼ tsp dried parsley flakes
    • ½ tsp garlic powder
    • pinch salt

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork until there are small chunks of butter that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and ¼ teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combined, but don’t stir.

Using an ice cream scoop drop blobs of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet . Use the kind with a sweeping mechanism that clears out the scoop.

Bake for 17 to 20 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.

Melt 2 tablespoons butter. Stir in garlic powder and parsley. Use a basting brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits.

    Makes about a dozen biscuits.
